Braskem Enters New Phase with IG4 and Petrobras to Strengthen Governance and Leadership

Braskem, the largest petrochemical company in the Americas and a major bioplastics producer, has entered a new phase of governance renewal with the entry of investment fund IG4 into management, alongside a more active presence of Petrobras.
A New Shareholder Configuration
The partnership combines complementary profiles: IG4 brings experience in restructuring and management of complex assets, while Petrobras contributes its technical expertise in the development of Brazil’s petrochemical industry.
“The partnership between the companies reflects the new phase at Braskem to, by overcoming challenges, preserve its strategic relevance for the chemical and petrochemical chain,” said HΓ©lcio Tokeshi, who takes over as CEO of Braskem.
Focus on Execution
The move comes at a challenging time for the chemical and petrochemical industry, marked by increased volatility, pressure on margins, and heightened global competition. Braskem’s new leadership is focusing on three priorities:
- Financial reorganization β optimizing capital structure through dialogue with financial stakeholders
- Operational efficiency β improving cash generation while preserving liquidity
- Capital discipline β prioritizing initiatives with clear returns
New Executive Leadership
As part of this new stage, Braskem has assembled an executive leadership team with experience in turnaround, finance, and business transformation. The company is conducting a structured review of its long-term strategy to navigate the challenging market environment.
Why It Matters
Braskem is one of the world’s largest producers of bio-based polyethylene (made from sugarcane ethanol) and a key player in the bioplastics industry. The governance renewal signals a commitment to financial stability and strategic focus β critical factors for the company’s continued role in the sustainable plastics transition.
