Aduro Joins Chemical Recycling Europe, Appoints FOAK Facility Lead
Aduro Clean Technologies from Canada is getting serious about Europe. The company, which has developed its own technology for chemical recycling of waste plastics, has taken three significant steps.
1. Membership in Chemical Recycling Europe
Aduro has joined Chemical Recycling Europe (CRE), an industry organization that advocates for policy frameworks supporting chemical recycling across Europe. Members include major chemical companies, technology developers, and brands.
2. FOAK Facility Leadership Hired
For the first-of-a-kind (FOAK) plant at the Chemelot industrial complex in the Netherlands, Aduro has brought on an experienced European industrial leader. Chemelot is one of Europe’s most important chemical industry hubs — the site selection is deliberate.
3. 10,000-Tonne Recycling Plant Advancing
Aduro is moving forward on a chemical recycling plant with 10,000 tonnes annual capacity. The proprietary HCU technology (Hydrochemolytic Upgrading) converts mixed plastics — including hard-to-recycle polyolefins, polystyrene, and PET — into high-quality hydrocarbons.
How It Differs from Pyrolysis
Unlike pyrolysis-based processes, Aduro’s HCU technology uses aqueous processes at lower temperatures. The result is a higher-value output with greater flexibility on feedstock. The company has operated a pilot plant for years and is now entering commercialization.
