Kelpi Packaging Approaches Market Launch with Homethings Partnership
Kelpi is on the verge of its first commercial deployment — and with a fitting partner at that.
UK cleaning brand Homethings will use Kelpi’s seaweed-based material for its next generation of refill sachets. It’s the world’s first commercial use of Kelpi’s proprietary seaweed coating for flexible packaging.
What’s Different About the Technology
Kelpi extracts biopolymers from sustainably harvested seaweed and processes them into a water-soluble coating. This replaces conventional plastic films in sachets. The material offers comparable barrier properties and product protection, yet is fully biodegradable after use.
Flexible sachets are notorious in the recycling world — they consist of multi-layer materials that are extremely difficult to separate. Kelpi’s approach could solve the problem at the packaging level.
Two B Corps, One Mission
Both Kelpi and Homethings are certified B Corps. Matthew Aubrey, founder of Homethings: “Homethings is committed to making cleaning cleaner. We were genuinely impressed by the performance of Kelpi’s material.”
Kelpi CEO Hugo Adams: “We’re proving that cutting-edge research can deliver real solutions to the plastic crisis. The partnership with Homethings shows what’s possible when like-minded companies work together.”
