Italian circular economy leader Recupero Etico Sostenibile S.p.A. (RES) has announced the acquisition of a unique polylactic acid (PLA) bioplastics plant located in Italy. This strategic procurement marks a significant milestone for RES, allowing the company to integrate advanced bioplastic production directly into its established waste recovery and recycling operations.
The acquisition targets one of the few facilities in Europe dedicated to the large-scale production of PLA, a highly versatile, bio-based polymer derived from renewable aliphatic resources such as fermented plant starch. By bringing this infrastructure under its corporate umbrella, RES aims to heavily localize the biopolymer supply chain, reducing European reliance on imported virgin materials from Asian and North American markets.

Polylactic acid is a pivotal material in the global transition away from conventional, fossil-based plastics.
