Finnish refining giant Neste has officially commissioned the world’s largest upgrading facility for liquefied waste plastic at its industrial hub in Porvoo. Unveiled on March 16, 2026, the plant represents a monumental step forward in the commercialization of chemical recycling, providing the vital infrastructure necessary to process previously unrecyclable plastic waste on an unprecedented industrial scale.
Transforming Waste into Virgin-Quality Feedstock
The new facility is specifically engineered to tackle a major bottleneck in the advanced recycling supply chain: the high impurity levels typically found in raw liquefied waste plastic, commonly known as pyrolysis oil.
