Vichem Appointed Official PLA Distributor in Vietnam

TotalEnergies Corbion Vichem Luminy PLA Polylactic Acid

TotalEnergies Corbion has officially appointed Vichem as the authorized distributor for its Luminy® Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) portfolio in Vietnam. This strategic partnership, finalized in early 2026, aims to strengthen the supply chain for biobased materials in one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic manufacturing hubs.

Strategic Expansion in Southeast Asia

As Vietnam continues to solidify its position as a key player in the global plastics industry, the demand for sustainable material alternatives has surged. By partnering with Vichem, a distributor known for its robust logistics network and deep market knowledge, TotalEnergies Corbion intends to streamline access to its bioplastic resins for local converters and brand owners.

Vichem will oversee the sales, marketing, and technical support for the full range of Luminy® PLA grades. This collaboration allows TotalEnergies Corbion to leverage Vichem’s local expertise to better serve customers looking to transition away from fossil-based plastics toward renewable alternatives. The move aligns with Vietnam’s increasing regulatory focus on reducing plastic waste and promoting circular economy models within the industrial sector.

Accelerating PLA Adoption

The agreement focuses on the distribution of Luminy® PLA, a biobased and biodegradable polymer derived from sugarcane. The portfolio includes both standard and high-heat resistant grades, offering versatility for applications ranging from food packaging and durables to 3D printing filaments and non-wovens.

Unlike traditional plastics, Luminy® PLA offers a significantly reduced carbon footprint. With Vichem now acting as the official conduit, Vietnamese manufacturers can more easily integrate these materials into their production lines. Vichem will provide essential technical guidance to ensure that local compounders and converters can process PLA efficiently, maintaining material performance while meeting sustainability targets.

The partnership represents a significant step in establishing a reliable infrastructure for bioplastics in the region, supporting both domestic consumption and Vietnam’s export-oriented manufacturing base.
