Symphony Environmental Signs Biodegradable Technology Deal in Dominican Republic
Symphony Environmental Technologies has announced a strategic expansion into the Caribbean market through a new consultancy agreement focused on the Dominican Republic. The deal is designed to accelerate the adoption of Symphony’s flagship d2w biodegradable technology, positioning the company to address the region’s growing demand for plastic waste solutions.
Strategic Expansion in the Caribbean
Under the terms of the agreement, the newly appointed consultant will lead efforts to secure commercial contracts and navigate the regulatory landscape in the Dominican Republic. The move comes as island nations increasingly seek viable alternatives to persistent plastic pollution, which threatens marine ecosystems and tourism industries.
To align interests, Symphony has granted options over ordinary shares to the consultant. These options, exercisable at 3.5 pence per share, are valid for five years and are contingent upon specific performance milestones. This incentivized structure reflects Symphony’s focus on tangible market penetration and sales growth in the region.
Advancing d2w Technology
Symphony’s d2w technology is a masterbatch additive that, when included in the manufacturing process of standard polyolefins, renders the finished plastic biodegradable. Unlike conventional plastics that can persist in the environment for centuries, d2w-treated plastics are designed to degrade and biodegrade in the open environment in the presence of oxygen, leaving no microplastics or toxic residues behind.
The technology allows local manufacturers in the Dominican Republic to produce biodegradable packaging using their existing machinery and workforce, eliminating the need for expensive industrial composting infrastructure often required for bio-based alternatives like PLA.
Regulatory Compliance and Market Growth
The Dominican Republic has been actively reviewing its environmental policies regarding single-use plastics. By establishing a dedicated presence on the ground, Symphony aims to demonstrate how d2w technology can serve as a compliance tool for local industry.
