Cortec Releases Biobased Acrylic Anticorrosion Coating
Cortec Corporation has announced the release of a new biobased acrylic anticorrosion coating, marking a significant advancement in the development of sustainable industrial protectants. This latest addition to Cortecās portfolio is designed to replace traditional petroleum-based coatings, offering a solution that reduces environmental impact without sacrificing the durability required for heavy-duty metal protection.
Technical Composition and Performance
The newly released formulation utilizes a complex mixture of non-toxic, organic inhibitors integrated into a water-based acrylic binder. By leveraging renewable raw materials, Cortec has successfully engineered a coating that offers high adhesion and durabilityācharacteristics often challenging to achieve in bio-derived acrylics.
Central to the product’s performance is the inclusion of Cortecās proprietary Vapor phase Corrosion Inhibitor (VpCIĀ®) technology. This additive package works at a molecular level to protect metal substrates from micro-corrosion, even in harsh environments. The coating provides a fast-drying, clear or colored film that is resistant to sagging and running during application, making it suitable for complex geometries.
Sustainability and Application
The transition to biobased acrylics addresses growing regulatory pressures regarding Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). This water-borne system significantly lowers VOC emissions compared to solvent-based counterparts, aligning with stricter environmental standards in the EU and North America.
Targeted applications for the new coating include heavy equipment manufacturing, structural steel preservation, and OEM parts storage. The product is designed to serve as a permanent topcoat that withstands UV exposure and salt spray, effectively bridging the performance gap between traditional industrial paints and eco-friendly alternatives. This release underscores the industry’s shift toward high-performance bio-materials that meet USDA BioPreferredĀ® standards for renewable content.
