CJ Biomaterials Launches New PHA Extrusion Coating Platform and Appoints New CEO

CJ Biomaterials, the bioplastics arm of South Korean conglomerate CJ CheilJedang, has unveiled a series of developments that significantly expand PHA’s application range.

New PHA Coating Platform

CJ Biomaterials has launched a PHA platform specifically designed for extrusion coatings on paper and board. The technology replaces polyethylene and other fossil-based coatings that currently make paper packaging difficult to recycle. This opens up large new markets in food service packaging, containers, and industrial applications.

PHACT Masterbatch

Alongside the platform comes a new PHACT masterbatch product, making it easier for converters and brands to incorporate PHACT PHA into existing production processes — no special equipment required.

Leadership Change

Allan Chung has been appointed CEO of CJ Biomaterials to lead the company through its next growth phase.

Additional Partnerships

Separately, CJ Biomaterials has partnered with BIQ Materials to produce PHACT PHA artificial turf infill for the European market.

Recognition for CJ CheilJedang

CJ CheilJedang received the Grand Prize for Marine Conservation at the SDGs Award 2025 — recognition for the company’s contributions to ocean protection through biodegradable products.
