Kingfa Inaugurates 30,000 Tonne/Year Chemical Recycling Plant in Montalbo

On February 19, 2025, Kingfa Environmental SCI & TECH Spain held its inauguration ceremony in Montalbo, Cuenca, Spain — marking a significant milestone in the Chinese advanced materials company’s European expansion strategy.

The new facility will produce 30,000 tonnes per year of high-performance recycled plastics through chemical recycling, processing plastic waste that cannot be effectively recycled through conventional mechanical methods. This positions the plant as a key component of Spain’s circular economy infrastructure for plastics.

Government Support

The inauguration was attended by government officials, industry experts, customer representatives, and local journalists. José Luis Martínez Guijarro, First Vice President of Castilla-La Mancha, congratulated Kingfa on the start of production, underscoring the regional government’s support for the investment.

The facility occupies the former Solán de Cabras installations in Montalbo, repurposing existing industrial infrastructure for advanced recycling operations.

European Market Strategy

The Montalbo plant represents Kingfa’s strategic push into the European market, where demand for recycled content is accelerating rapidly due to:

  • EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) — requiring minimum recycled content in plastic packaging from August 2026
  • End-of-life vehicle regulations — mandating recycled content in automotive components
  • Corporate sustainability commitments — driving demand for certified recycled plastics

Through end-to-end solutions covering recycling, product design, production, and traceability, Kingfa provides internationally certified low-carbon materials and lifecycle carbon footprint calculation services for European value chain partners.

Part of a Broader Recycling Ambition

The Spain facility is part of Kingfa’s global target to achieve 1 million tonnes per year of total recycling capacity — spanning both mechanical and chemical recycling — across facilities in China and overseas.

Kingfa’s recycling expansion reflects the company’s positioning under China’s national carbon neutrality goals (peak by 2030, neutral by 2060), where circular economy solutions for plastics are a key enabler of emissions reduction across the material value chain.
